If you’re looking for the perfect balance of relaxed town and amenity-rich city, the East Valley Town of Gilbert is an excellent option for you to explore. In fact, after living in the Phoenix Metro’s East Valley for decades, I’ve found it difficult to locate an area of Gilbert that isn’t inviting.
Bordered largely by Mesa, Chandler, and Queen Creek, the Town of Gilbert serves as a nice middle ground in the ever-expanding landscape of the East Valley. As such, much of Gilbert is proximal to either the Loop 202 freeway or the US 60, providing access to neighboring cities and arteries to head further toward central Phoenix, Scottsdale, or Tempe.
These desirable traits do not come without noteworthy costs. As of late 2025, the median sales price for detached single-family homes in Gilbert was only slightly shy of $600,000, while the average sale price reached close to $700,000. The range of available properties is significant and homebuyers in the premium end of the price spectrum should not quickly neglect Gilbert as an option for a high-end home base.
Despite being mostly landlocked, Gilbert is a sizable town in the Phoenix Metro by population with almost 300,000 estimated residents, placing it in a similar category with Chandler, Scottsdale, and Glendale. With such a large population residing both in and around Gilbert, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Town has multiple attractive options to satisfy residents and visitors. Please allow us to share some of our favorite places to dine and enjoy entertainment.
BUCK & RIDER - If you’re in the mood for seafood, Buck & Rider is an excellent spot for a high-quality meal from the ocean. If you prefer something land-based, the steak options are also well worth a taste.
JOE’S REAL BBQ - A Gilbert classic, Joe’s brings tasty BBQ flavors inside of a charming, old-school building. The yard area outside, complete with picnic tables for your meal, is a wonderful place to allow kids to enjoy while you relax. Our suggestion is that you don’t skip the classic pulled pork sandwich at Joe’s!
COOPER’S HAWK - Wine options appear front-and-center at Cooper’s Hawk for your enjoyment, but the food is not to be forgotten as a varied menu with excellent blends of flavor provide plenty of options.
SHIMOGAMO - If you enjoy sushi, Shimogamo provides excellent options. However, the small skewers (including wagyu, salmon, and more) provide a great set of diverse proteins and the shaved ice (Kakigori) is a cool, creamy, and delicious dessert.
Downtown Gilbert’s Heritage District is a great spot to spend an afternoon and evening. Catch a performance at Hale Theater or enjoy the periodic Art Walk, then select one of multiple excellent dining or brewery options, and top it all off with tasty ice cream options or a cocktail at Sotol for a drink with a view.
Get outdoors at the Riparian Preserve, Freestone Park, or Gilbert Regional Park (be sure to check out the pickleball scene at this one).
If you enjoy themed cocktails and a prohibition-era vibe, a speakeasy experience at Undertow in the Agritopia area or The White Rabbit in Downtown Gilbert could be just what you’re looking for.
If you’re looking for an all-around fun time, try an escape room at Escapology, swing for fun at Top Golf, take the family to Main Event for bowling, VR, or laser tag, and catch a dine-in movie at Majestic Cinema.
